Congratulations to all the choir directors on an outstanding weekend. Once again, McAllen ISD got more students in the Region choir than any other district and 13 student’s district–wide in the top 4 chairs in their sections.
McAllen HS placed 20 students in the District Choir and 11 students in the Region choir.
Memorial placed 8 students in the District Choir and 4 students in the Region Choir.
Rowe placed 20 students in the District Choir and 17 students in the Region Choir.
All together we have 32 students advancing to the next round.
Choir directors, you deserve a big thank you and a round of applause for the way you prepared you students.Good luck on the next round. Let’s make this a record breaking year.
Congratulations to our High School Jazz Band Directors for outstanding results at Region and Area Jazz Band auditions.
Jazz Bands are relatively new programs at all of our high schools and yet our staff has already set a high performance standard.
As a district, 11 students placed in the Region Jazz Band fromMcAllen and 7 will be going on to Area. Jazz band is extremely competitive as there are only 40 total slots. McAllen ISD claimed 28% of the total slots available.
McAllen Rowe High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Rick Mendoza, placed 10 students in the Region Jazz Band. Seven of these students will be going on to Area Auditions.
McAllen Memorial High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Bobby Garza placed 1 student in the Region group.
Overall, McAllen ISD had the second highest total number of students placing in Region ensembles coming in just behind Edinburg.
The most spectacular news is that McAllen ISD had the most 1st chairs of any school or district in the competition. Out of the 11 students that placed, 6 were first chairs in their sections. All of the first chair students were from Nikki Rowe High School. This clearly shows that these students were taught to the very highest standards.
A big congratulations go out to all of the teachers that worked with these fine students. I know you put in countless hours to get them to this competitive level. Thank you for all you do for your students, your program and McAllen ISD.
